British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has returned to work yesterday being 27th of April 2020, having been on sick leave to recover from corona virus. In his first speech at work, he said:
“I conceive the long term consequences of lockdown as clearly as anyone, and yes, I kindly share your urgency. It’s the government’s urgency and yet, we must also recognize the risk of a second spike. The risk of losing control of that virus and letting the re-production rate go back overwhelms, but exactly not only a new wave of death and disease, but also an economic disaster. And so, am nearly disturbed and I want to get this economy moving as fast as I can, but I refuse to travel with all the effort and the sacrifice of the British people and to risk a second major outbreak and huge loss of life on the overwhelming of DNHS. And I ask you to contain your impatience because I believe we are coming now to the end of the first phase of this conflict.”

He agreed that United Kingdom will maintain its restrictions but some states, who feel they have met the requirements be it economically stable and massive health equipment, may ease the lockdown. This pandemic is a threat to mankind, and shouldn’t be neglected. Though people are anxious about businesses in UK and its strong economy, he is not willing to risk the lives of British citizens, for he believes that there may be a second spike of this virus and so, warns that people should not throw away the sacrifices and efforts made by people all because of impatience. Lifting the lockdown now is inappropriate and untimely.
Note should be made that the United Kingdom, as well as the rest of the world, has been on lockdown for a number of months. It is against this backdrop that the British public seemed to have joined the bandwagon on itching for an ease of the lockdown as is noticeable in some parts of the globe. Their palpable unrest as it concerns diluting the lockdown was as a result of growing concerns for the economy of the Great Britain. That was noticeable as the basis of their calling or itching that the lockdown be downplayed.
However, the Prime Minister though seeing the importance of having a concern for the economy was of the view that something else is of paramount importance. In his view, the health and life of the people tower over concerns about the economy. In line with this stance of his, he did not mince words in stating that preventing a reoccurrence of the pandemic is of a major concern as he didn’t allow for any ease of the lockdown stating that people should try to contain their impatience while the lockdown lasts.
The bone of contention, COVID-19 which was alleged to have emanated from the republic of China in the month of December 2019 has undoubtedly brought an enormous fear on the people of the world but the world is not relenting in fighting back to contain it. This could be seen in the UK Prime Minister’s insistence that the lockdown lasts. Hopefully, the world, if they continue in their resilience, the COVID-19 will be conquered.
