The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is a Nigerian government agency that is fully empowered to regulate and control the manufacture, importation, exportation, advertisement, distribution, sale and use of drugs, foods, cosmetics, and other regulated products. Like many other countries, Nigerian government started serious move towards establishing a drug regulatory agency in response to the World Health Assembly 1988 call on countries to help in combating the global threat posed by fake drug products. Sequel to that, the first governing board of NAFDAC was formed in December 1992. Following the promulgation of the enabling Decree No 15 in January 1993, the agency was formally established on 1st January 1994 as a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Health, taking over regulatory functions from the Department of Food and Drugs Administration.
Determined to solve Nigeria’s persistent fake drug problems motivated mainly by the huge profits to be made, the government restructured NAFDAC’s management and reorganized the agency in April 2001. With the inception of the “new NAFDAC” under the leadership of the hard working Professor Dora Nkem Akunyili as Director General, some achievements were reached causing a reduction to the problems. Presently, the agency has successfully created 6 zonal and 36 well-equipped state offices for easier accessibility. Below is a comprehensive list of NAFDAC state offices and contact details.

my younger sister bought my baby’s food- nutriborn for my 1 year 3 months old baby from a provision store at Ekpan community at Effurun-Warri environs of Uvwie LGA of Delta state and unknowing to my wife that it has expired for a month now as checking the expiring date escaped her, only for my wife to prepare the food for my baby and few hours later my baby started stooling incontrollable that we had to administer recommended medication to control her stooling and out of curiosity, I decided to check the food package and discover that the food had expired and going back to complain to the shop owner and advise her to check her goods, she instead pick a quarrel with me.
